This month I got a free sample packet of outlet insulators in the mail, and weirdly enough I’m actually really excited about them. With all of the stress recently I’m trying to cut costs anywhere I can and I’m trying to be smart about how I use electricity… so they came at a perfect time. I don’t even remember when I signed up for the sample, other than the fact that it was a while back.
The house we’re renting has terrible insulation and I know there are other things we could do to keep the house better insulated, but this is free and with money tight, I like to think every little bit helps.
Using the kit was really simple and easy. Seriously, I think it took me longer to find the screwdriver than it did to install the covers. Much to my surprise, some of the outlets already had some insulation, so I replaced the ones that were damaged and then added ones that didn’t have any insulators… really it’s ridiculously easy.
I know that at the end of the day it isn’t going to make a huge difference, but in some rooms that are on the outside walls of the house, I have noticed significantly less air movement through. I have worried a few times about how quickly the house would lose heat if we lose power, now I feel a little better about it.
Have you ever used something like this? Did you notice a difference?
